Sides of a Coin
Now Playing: Sides of a Coin
Topic: Sides of a Coin
Most people claim a coin has two sides,
     two stories to tell,
but if you look closely there's more to the tale.

All coins have an edge that circles around,
     forever no end,
it sees up and down all around its rim.

Each surface topography swirls with grit,
     cliffs and caves,
the chips and dents from handling age.

From front to back and then the rim,
     each surface pocked view,
a thousand perspectives are seen not just two.

Decisions
Now Playing: Decisions
Topic: Decisions
Quietly research both sides of a game
before deciding which holds your true aim.
Let none press your eyes to only one name;
give both sides credence to avoid later bane.

During political elections and unrest, it's very easy for each of us to select one side too quickly regardless of what the other has to offer. In truth it's also pretty hard to ignore all the furious stuff each side flings at each other. Sometimes I think we should ALL become angry, stop sitting on particular benches without viewing the others and do some comparison shopping. I know what I want or need without a circus barker trying to sway my mind with dubious information. So, sometimes it's best to wear both ear plugs and blinders and research on our own.

Vampyre
Now Playing: Vampyre
Topic: Vampyre
Vaulting blood's such a dismal sight,
and pointy-long fangs tear up my bite.
So when I ponder eternal-long night,
a vampyre's NOT the way I would like.

Wars

Topic: Wars

Wars designed by just a few
are fought by thousands of me and you.
Patriots dying with barely a clue,
perhaps there are times for a world-wide coup?

Principals
Now Playing: Principals
Topic: Principals

It's easy to hold to principles when nothing stands in your way,
but standing firm when blood runs raw and everyone's screaming 'NAY'?
Well that's when ideals are tested and forged in heat's searing rays; the trial you win if you do not hide but stand tall to the end of the day.

Topic: WitchyTime

The SkyScape is violet with a blink of pink light;
little is stirring it's the end of the night.
In the silence of morning I hear my own mind
whisper promise of newness, my own WitchyTime.

Topic: A Name

What is a name if not just a sound
that sets one apart from the rest of the pound?

What if instead t'was the tap of a foot
a delicate dance that required a look?

Freedom
Now Playing: Freedom
Topic: Freedom
No fetters in action or voice,
just take and then own;

No blame or fault
but for self and your home;

No boundaries or rules
to bind mind or bone......

.....but......remember

the rights of true freedom are beyond just your own.

One Halloween Night
Now Playing: One Halloween Night
Topic: Halloween 1959
One Halloween night so cold and crisp,
I looked through the trees and through heavy mist

and there in the sky where the moon shone bright
I saw a witch flash through the night.

From what I could see that witch had ten knees
and upon those knees sat a golden key.

She took from her cloak a little black box
and upon that box sat a little red fox,

and when she opened it this I've told
that out came ghosts and goblins and all sorts of things
that scare little children on Halloween.

(hulitoons - 1959)

I wrote this in 7th grade.  It was a difficult time because I lived in Seoul, Korea, and was not an exceptional student.  But Halloween was also one of my favored days and I coveted that night greatly.  Still, writing a poem was new to me and I was very sure I could not do it so I wrote and edited it in my mind, delivering each line over and over again before adding the next.  I had repeated it so many times that when I finally wrote it to paper, it was in its final form.  Over the years this one piece, so ingrained in the files of my brain, has been pulled out to silent song many times.  I am only just now once again putting it in print.  It is not exceptional, but it surely is a flavored candy that has become part of my own gnarled bark!

I'm old and daft so I script silly lines
to waste precious space and use up time
